Food Safety and Standards Authority of India

  • FSSAI is an abbreviation used for Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.
  • FSSAI comes under Food Safety and Standards Authority of India Act 2006
  • FSSAI license is mandatory before starting any food business
  • Manufacturers, traders, restaurants who are engaged in food business has to register themselves
  • Food products undergo certain quality checks

Types of FSSAI License

  • Basic License - required for small business or startups - annual turnover below Rs.12 lakhs
  • State license - applicable to mid-sized companies which have annual turnover between 12-20 crores
  • Central license - applicable typically on large business with annual turnover above Rs.20 crores. The license is need if the supply made at the government offices or import / export food products

Guidelines on FSSAI

  • Ministry of Family Health & Welfare, GOI issues the 14-digit number as FSSAI LICENSE
  • This license provides the information about the manufacturer's license and the manufacturing state.
  • For importing products, the importer has to display the FSSAI logo and license number along with name and address of importer
  • The validity of license is 1 or 2 years.
  • If Business is situated in different locations then separate or specific registration is required.

Documents Required for Registration

  • Form A for registration under FSSAI
  • Authority letter
  • Copy of Property paper
  • Copy of rent agreement (if rented property)
  • Electricity / Water Bill
  • Food Safety Management system plan
  • Copy of Aadhar Card
  • Form IX : Nomination of persons by a company along with the board Resolution

  • Blueprint/layout plan of the processing unit
  • List of Equipment and Machinery
  • List of Directors/partners/proprietor
  • List of food category desired to be manufactured
  • Pesticide residues report of water

Documents Required for

State license

  • Form B duly completed or signed by Authorized signatory
  • List of Directors/partners/proprietor
  • Blueprint/layout plan of the processing unit
  • List of Equipment and Machinery along with number, installed capacity and horse power used.
  • Copy of Aadhar Card
  • List of food category desired to be manufactured
  • Copy of certificate under Coop Act 1861/ Multi State Coop Act-2002 in case of Cooperatives

Central license

  • Form B duly completed or signed by Authorized signatory
  • List of Directors/partners/proprietor
  • Blueprint/layout plan of the processing unit
  • List of Equipment and Machinery along with number, installed capacity and horse power used.
  • Copy of Aadhar Card
  • List of food category desired to be manufactured
  • Copy of certificate under Coop Act 1861/ Multi State Coop Act-2002 in case of Cooperatives
